About Thaw Time

Thaw Time is a physics-based breastmilk thawing and warming calculator built for parents and caregivers who bottle-feed expressed milk. Instead of guessing how much warm water to use or how long to leave a frozen bag on the counter, Thaw Time turns thermodynamics into a clear answer: the estimated volume of warm water needed to bring frozen breastmilk to a target temperature, the estimated time for fridge or countertop thawing, and a two-stage plan that combines air thawing with a warm-water finish. Every result is grounded in real physics — a shared transient heat-transfer model for thawing and warming times, plus a first-law equilibrium calculation for static-bath sizing — so the estimates are a thoughtful starting point, not a guess.

The app is built by an independent parent-developer. Safety guidance follows current CDC recommendations. It is designed for nursing and pumping parents, partners, and any caregiver sharing a feeding routine, so the whole household can warm a bottle consistently and confidently.

Breast milk does not need to be warmed before feeding — it can be served cold or at room temperature. The target temperature setting (Thawed, Fridge, or Feed) lets you estimate warming time if you prefer to serve it warmer. Countertop and room-temperature thawing are modeled for informational purposes; the CDC does not list countertop thawing as a recommended method, so for routine thawing use the refrigerator or warm/lukewarm-water methods.

Calculator inputs and calculations are processed on your device and are not saved by Thaw Time. If you choose to submit feedback, the message and any optional name you provide are stored so the feedback can be reviewed. Shareable links encode your inputs in the URL so a partner or sitter can open the same calculation without anyone holding a copy.

Made by a dad who wanted to better support his pumping wife — a small tool to take some of the 3 a.m. guesswork out of warming a bottle.
